Three Part Live Course
with Nick Totton (UK)

Although an individual’s embodied experience may often be difficult to describe adequately in words, doing so is not only possible but of great value since to do so we need to be deeply connected with our bodies.

This course aims to teach participants to distinguish reliably between ‘full’ speech and ‘empty’ speech, between words coming from throat and mouth and an expression grounded in the body.

Mondays, 20 – 27 September and 4 October 2021

19h – 20h30 UK time

This course will be recorded

In this three part online course, you will learn:

  • How to make a distinction between ‘full’ and ‘empty’ speech

  • What is needed to speak from our embodiment

  • How to communicate with clients about embodiment

  • How to use ‘full’ speech to enable clients to express themselves from the body

COURSE CONTENT

PART I

20 September 2021
19h – 20h30 UK time

Recognising and Accessing Full and Empty Speech

Through description, demonstration, and exercises, Nick will convey to participants the difference between full and empty speech and how to develop a sense of what is needed in order to speak from our embodiment.

PART II

27 September 2021
19h – 20h30 UK time

Speaking to Clients about Embodiment

Many practitioners will have noticed that it is not always easy to communicate with clients about how they experience their embodiment. In this session, we will explore the sorts of difficulties that arise and develop a sense of how full speech can help in this conversation.

PART III

4 October 2021
19h – 20h30 UK time

Facilitating Clients in Developing a Capacity for Full Speech

In the last course lesson, we will study how to use our own developing capacity to speak from our embodiment to enable clients to do the same thing, both in and outside therapy. We will then take some time to integrate and process the course material.
